Planter Finish Options
Design a custom outdoor planter for your space at Yard Couture. All of our modern metal planters are available in a wide range of material and finish options including heavy-gauge Corten steel, hot-rolled mild steel, galvanized steel, powder-coated aluminum, oxidized aluminum patina, and copper. Every planter is handcrafted in the USA by experienced craftsmen using the finest quality materials.
Powder Coated Metal Planters
Our marine-grade aluminum and galvanized steel planter boxes can be powder coated in multiple color combinations. If you need a specific color outside of our standard options, we can match almost any color using the RAL color system. The powder coating process takes place in a precision oven, producing a flawless, durable finish with low to no emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), helping protect both your health and the environment.
Aluminum Planters
Our aluminum planters are made from high-quality 11-gauge 5052 marine-grade alloy. This material is lightweight, exceptionally durable, and virtually rust-free and maintenance-free. It is the ideal choice for highly corrosive environments, rooftop terrace installations, or placement on porous or easily stained surfaces. Available in 8 standard powder coat colors with the ability to reproduce almost any custom color.
Oxidized Aluminum Patina
The oxidized aluminum option delivers an industrial aesthetic without the toxicity of lead. Using a proprietary process developed by Ore Inc., the aluminum is treated to oxidize and patina naturally over time. When the product arrives it will be an unfinished gray color that continues to develop with outdoor exposure. In coastal areas with higher humidity, the finish gradually shifts toward a white patina. This finish complements modern industrial and urban spaces beautifully.
Corten Steel Planters
Corten, or weathering steel, is made from a heavy-gauge 606 alloy. This ultra-durable material develops a stable, self-protecting oxidized coating around the metal over time, unlike standard steel which will eventually rust through. Corten is available only in a natural rust patina finish, as the material continues to deepen in character with each season. It works equally well in modern industrial settings and organic, naturalistic landscapes. All Corten products ship in their natural state and are not recommended for placement on light-colored or porous surfaces where color transfer may be a concern.
Mild Steel Planters
Our mild steel planters are made from high-quality 14-gauge hot-rolled steel, offering an affordable option without sacrificing quality or design. Mild steel has a contemporary industrial appearance and ships in its raw state, continuing to patina and change over time. Available in a natural rust patina finish only. Note: natural rust patina products will transfer color to light-colored or porous surfaces and are not recommended in areas where surface staining is a concern.
Copper Planters
Copper is an exceptional outdoor material valued for its natural beauty, corrosion resistance, lighter weight, and superior durability. Upon atmospheric exposure, copper oxidizes from its initial metallic luster to a warm brownish tone within days to weeks, and in certain environments matures to distinctive green and blue patina tones. All copper planters are crafted from 100% 16-gauge copper, formed and shaped by experienced craftsmen.
Galvanized Steel Planters
Galvanized steel offers outstanding resistance to mechanical damage such as scuffs and dings. The galvanizing process applies a protective zinc coating that prevents rusting and corrosion, providing cathodic protection to the steel even if the surface is damaged. A practical, long-lasting choice for high-traffic commercial and residential installations.
